WITH QUIET VOLUME
My name’s Lisa, and I'm a nonfiction writer.

FORM & FLOW
I write with rhythm.
My style is lyrical, restrained, and emotionally exacting. I lean into silence as much as sound, trusting in understatement, rhythm, and the weight of a well-placed phrase. I shift fluidly between literary prose and conversational questioning, balancing an articulate flow with staccato bursts of sharp, concise honesty.
Subjects of Focus
Sitting firmly in the greys.
My work explores the liminal—those in-between states where binaries falter, and the space around them asks more than it resolves. I write philosophically, circling love, loss, identity, and the quiet negotiations that shape a life. At its heart, my writing is an invitation to sit with uncertainty, in pursuit of clarity.

FLASH CREATIVE NONFICTION
Short, eloquent, precise.
Writing flash pieces is an exercise in concision, and allows me to condense thoughts, feelings, and experiences into palatable, poetic pieces. Whilst not every subject is able to be wrapped gently within tighter wrappings, creative flash allows for focus without dilution — a chance to hold ambiguity without needing to resolve it. I use the form not to rush meaning, but to explore it with lyrical restraint: brevity can speak just as clearly as breadth, without losing anything to excess.
Longform Literary Essays
Deliberate & expansive, with an intimate, lyrical flow.
I write literary essays when a subject needs more space, both emotionally and structurally. These pieces are longer, quieter, and more considered than flash, shaped by lyrical flow, subtle rhythm, and emotional precision. I blend lived experience with reflective thought, letting form follow feeling without allowing emotion to dominate, or become performative. My essays hold grief, identity, autonomy, and ambiguity without relying on binary certainties to carry their weight. Where the brevity of flash refines, the extended length of an essay allows depth to slowly settle.
LYRICAL REFLECTIONS
Written to question; comfortable in discomfort.
These are short-to-mid-length pieces that think before they tell. Less structured than essays, and less compressed than flash, they hold an idea lightly and explore it without trying to resolve it. Stylistically, they live somewhere between literary, poetic, and conversational: tuned for rhythm, but not precious about form. They might take the form of reflection, quiet argument, or the tracing of a single emotional or ethical thread — their focus isn’t story, but perspective.
Freeform Poetry
Unstructured & intimate, with rhythmic intent.
My freeform poetry is driven by rhythm, breath, and emotional cadence. Unbound by metre or formal structure, these pieces move intuitively, shaped by sound, repetition, and the internal momentum of feeling. Sometimes lyrical, sometimes confessional, they speak in the voice of the moment: immediate, intimate, and often sharp-edged.

'A Liminal Pause'
A longform literary essay, which explores the quiet transformation brought on by grief; this work focuses on memory, identity, endurance, and disorientation.
'Intent'
A shortform, free-flowing essay reflecting on the transience of grief — and how love continues, intentionally and with clarified significance, even after loss.
